July 28, 2008Vinyl doll hair reroot tutorial![]() Rock Angelz Sasha! Id wanted one since she was first released, but I didnt get the chance to buy one before she completely sold out. For only a dollar, I wasnt about to leave her hanging on Value Villages wall of toys. ![]() Whats this? Seems her previous owner was a bit scissor happy. Tsk! Oh well, I can fix this. Materials required: -Mug of water -A long, sturdy needle (length is key) -Thread -Nail clippers, preferably dull -Tweezers -Replacement hair (For qualitys sake, I recommend using saran hair. My preferred supplier is http://restoredoll.com ) -An object that can be used to safely push down on the sharp end of a needle -A large safety pin -Scissors ![]() First, its off with her head. To remove a Bratz head, hold the dolls neck over a mug of boiling (or near boiling) water for about 35 seconds to steam it and make the heads vinyl softer. Then, push the head down onto the neck and carefully pull it off. Take extra care if using a male doll - there is a larger neck anchor on the male body which is more prone to breaking. Other types of fashion dolls may have similar neck anchors. Once the head is off, I recommend taking a pair of dull nail clippers to the strands of hair that have been butchered (or the whole head, if you want to do a full reroot) and pull them completely out of the head. Any remaining stubs can be removed with tweezers. ![]() Cut a length of thread about 4-5 times the length of the dolls head and fold it in half. Stick the creased end of the thread through the eye of the needle (important: do not knot) and have an amount around the length of the dolls head laying out on the creased end. ![]() Bend the large safety pin to approximately a 90 degree angle. Stick it into one of the holes which once contained hair, or create a new one if desired. ![]() Remove the pin (twist it around a bit while pulling it out) and immediately insert the needle into the hole, eye down. Use a tool to direct and push the needle out the dolls neck hole (I usually use a doll hairbrush made of thick hard plastic to do this). ![]() Remove the needle through the neck hole, while leaving the thread in place. The creased end should be hanging out the neck hole, and the loose ends should still be sticking out of the scalp. ![]() Take a small amount of hair (look at the amount of strands in each hole on the head for an idea) and tie a knot on one end. Be sure that this is longer than it needs to be in the end, especially if you are rooting very short hair. Slip the knotted end into the loop hanging out the dolls neck hole. Then, grab the loose thread ends that are hanging out the top of the head and carefully pull until the thread loop is out of the head, and the hair is correctly in place. Repeat as many times as necessary. ![]() Once youve finished adding hair, its time to steam the neck hole again. ![]() Then, carefully place the head back onto the body and adjust it until it sits properly. ![]() Brush the hair out, and trim the new strands as desired. Be careful! Cutting in small intervals can help. ![]() Voila! DISCLAIMER: I cant guarantee your results and suggest using a practice doll before starting on a project youre really concerned with. Needless to say, this is for dolls only. EDIT: What happened to my apostrophes?

My monitor is acting up...
so don't be surprised if I disappear for a few days. It's been flickering off and on for a while...just tonight, red isn't displaying on most of the screen, so everything has a blue tint.

July 26, 2008Awesome game:Persona 3 FES for PS2. I just got it last week (after the raves of multiple friends), and it is amazing. I don't want to spoil much, but it has a great combination of RPG and life simulation elements. I definitely recommend it!
